Request Summary: Visitation policy for maternity
Request Category: Media
Question Number 1:
Does your maternity unit allow partners to stay overnight with new mothers after the birth of their child? (Please answer Yes or No)
Answer To Question 1:
Yes in some instances.
The unit has 4 amenity rooms in which women can stay and have partners with them.
Women who have an operative birth at night may have their partners stay with them.
Question Number 2:
Please provide your trust’s visitation policy for its maternity ward (enclosed as a PDF or word document or a link to the policy please)
Answer To Question 2:
We do not have a written policy on visiting but we advocate open visiting for partners and other children so they can see mum and new sibling. For all other visitors we inform mothers during the antenatal period, during the 'tour of the unit' and birth planning. The visiting is fully displayed on maternity doors of the post natal area and women have a guide that is situated at the bedside.
