What is the protocol for assessing elderly patients I.e. over 85, who present with osteoarthritic knee joints?
|Answer To Question 1:|
We have no specific protocol for assessing elderly patients (i.e. over 85) who present with osteoarthritis of the knee joint. All patients are assessed on presentation, exacerbating factors and Patient Reported Outcome Measures such as the Oxford Knee Score as well as radiological assessment. Patients are assessed on an individual basis with other factors such as activity levels, co-morbidities and BMI being taken in to consideration regardless of age.

As of 1st April 2019 there were 119 patients waiting for a Total Knee Replacement, which have an average wait time of 105 days.

Over the last two financial years the following numbers of Total Knee Replacement procedures were performed, split by age:
Less than 50 = 8
50-59 = 34
60-69 = 62
70-79 = 103
80 and Over = 57
Less than 50 = 6
50-59 = 35
60-69 = 100
70-79 = 104
80 and Over = 57
