Request Summary: overnight medical staffing
Request Category: Media
Question Number 1:
I would like a list of all sites owned by the trust where patients may stay overnight.
Answer To Question 1:
Question Number 2:
How many beds are there on each site?
Answer To Question 2:
Question Number 3:
What is the training level of the most senior doctor who should be on site each night (e.g. FY1, FY2, ST1 etc)? If this varies between wards/departments, please provide details.
Answer To Question 3:
It varies by specialty from FY2 to Core/specialist trainee to consultant. We have no specialties where the most senior doctor on site is an FY1.
FY2 doctors cover minor/low risk surgical specialities such as ophthalmology, ENT and urology.
Consultants are resident on call for paediatrics, neonatology, and on shift until midnight for Emergency medicine.
Question Number 4:
In the past year, how many times has the most senior doctor on site/ward overnight been at a lower training level than this, and what was their training level on each occasion?
Answer To Question 4:
Information not held but our policy is for more senior doctors to "act down" when a junior is unavailable rather than a more junior doctor "acting up"
Question Number 5:
In the past year, how many times has the most senior doctor on each site overnight been a locum? On how many occasions was that locum at a lower training level than specified as ideal by trust policy?
Answer To Question 5:
Information not held
