Request Summary: COVID-19 winter travel arrangements

Question Number 1:
1. What plans do you have in place to support staff with travel to and from work between 1 December 2020 to 31 March 2021, in case public transport is disrupted due to severe weather conditions and/or COVID-19 lockdowns, locally or nationwide?
[Such as: booking hotel rooms; hiring private accommodation; paying for taxis; creating special rest rooms]
 
Answer To Question 1:
Winter Preparedness
The Trust had four 4x4 vehicles on site for this period with an agreement in place to increase provision by a further 2 vehicles, with 24 hours’ notice
The Trust had reserved c24 rooms in our onsite accommodation, for staff who may required to remain on site
The Trust has developed a network of voluntary car divers to support staff getting into work.
A winter Transport Cell has been arranged to manage transport during inclement weather
The EPRR team have met with the local authority and put in place advance weather warnings and local gritting plans
The EPRR & Facilities team have established good working relationship with the local bus operator for advance notice of service outage
The EPRR and Facilities teams receive advance weather notices
The Trust had access to 4 x 4 vehicles and drivers from the voluntary sector
The Trust has an onsite gritting rota (paths and pavements, doorways and access routes) and a gritting contract in place to ensure internal roads are clear during inclement weather

COVID-19 Respnse
Arrangements with a local hotel was in place and at the peak 24 rooms were used
The Trust had reserved c24 rooms for staff who may require to remain on site
The EPRR & Facilities team have established good working relationship with the local bus operator for advance notice of service outage
The Trust had four 4x4 vehicles on site during COVID with an agreement in place to increase provision by a further 2 vehicles, with 24 hours’ notice, if required
The Trust had 4 ‘Car Club’ vehicles (pool cars) available to support staff with transport concerns
The Trust purchased a ‘Liftshare’ scheme to operate in the event of local transport failure
The Trust had investigated the provision of mini bus hire to operate if required.
