Request Summary: DBS Checks

Request Category: Private Individuals

Question Number 1:
How many members of your workforce (both staff and volunteers) require a DBS check?

Answer To Question 1:
SFT has 4,579 staff employed in positions which require a DBS check, this includes substantive staff, bank workers and volunteers.

Question Number 2:
How many members of your workforce (both staff and volunteers) who require a DBS check have not been DBS checked for 3 years?

Answer To Question 2:
DBS checks do not have an expiry date, however following our own safeguarding advice and in line with NHS best practice guidance, SFT works to achieve a 3 year refresh for all staff requiring a DBS check. At present there are 26 staff that are currently out of this time period for renewal. These 26 staff had a DBS check completed at the point of employment, and management action is in place to refresh their check

Question Number 3:
How many members of your workforce (both staff and volunteers) who require a DBS check have never been DBS checked

Answer To Question 3:
DBS checks came in to force from 1st December 2012. All SFT employees employed since that date, who are required to have DBS checks, do so at the appointment stage.

Question Number 4:
In the past ten years how many members of your workforce have been found guilty of sexual misconduct at a misconduct hearing?
Of those, how many were referred to the DBS?

Answer To Question 4:
7 of which one was referred to the DBS, the remaining staff did not meet the threshold for referral to the DBS.

Question Number 5:
In instances where a member of your workforce was found guilty of sexual misconduct at a misconduct hearing but not referred by the Trust to the DBS, please share a summary of the allegation they were found guilty of

Answer To Question 5:
All were allegations of Sexual Harassment
