Question Number 1: Please can you provide the number of physical assaults against hospital staff by patients and members of the public on the Trusts premises for the following five years: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023?

Answer To Question 1: 2019 - 79 2020 - 119 2021 - 112 2022 - 127 2023 - 177

Question Number 2: How many of these physical assaults were reported to the police for the following five years: 2019, 2020,2021, 2022, 2023?

Answer To Question 2: Whilst records of assaults against hospital staff are recorded, reports to police are an individual decision of the healthcare professional and not recorded by the Trust.

Question Number 3: If you hold this data, how many had a criminal justice outcome (e.g. cautioned, charged, taken to court) for the following five years: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023?

Answer To Question 3: The Trust does not record criminal justice outcomes.

Question Number 4: Since 2019 has the Trust introduced any additional measures to try to reduce the number of physical assaults against hospital staff? If so, please specify what measures have been taken e.g. body cameras, CCTV in clinical areas, more security guards etc?

Answer To Question 4: The Trust has developed a violent prevention strategy aligned to the NHS England Violence Prevention Standard. The Trust has introduced the use of body worn cameras Provided staff with conflict resolution and breakaway training. Developed a violence prevention working group with executive director oversight and has undertaken an assessment of injury data to identify the types of violence and locations of violent to develop department specific actions based on confusion, antisocial behaviour or mental health. The Trust has trained TRiM practitioners, has a wellbeing program to support staff exposed to violence and has in house counselling and psychology services available for staff.
