Barry's business career began with Unilever and progressed to managing and leading businesses in the UK and overseas, specialising in change management. Since retiring, Barry has lectured in management, and worked for Charities, alongside being a magistrate, and chairing several voluntary organisations, including the Wessex branch of the Variety Club of GB Children's Charity. With a lifelong interest in the NHS, Barry joined the Board of Salisbury Hospital in 2005 as a Non-Executive Director, and served until 2015, helping to establish the hospital as a Foundation Trust, and set up Odstock Medical Ltd as its first Chair. Wanting to maintain his relationship with the Trust, Barry became a Governor in 2021, and has recently begun his second term.
Barry has lived in East Dorset for over 40 years, with wife Carole and varying numbers of dogs, a hobby which has led to Barry being an international judge and chairing local and national canine organisations. Coming up to their 60th anniversary, Carole and Barry have two children, three grandchildren, and recently blessed with their first great granddaughter.
Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of NHS Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
