The C2Hear interactive multimedia videos improve the lives of new hearing-aid users. Research funded by the UK's National Institute for Health Research created C2Hear. This comprises videos, animations, photos and patient testimonials to provide valuable advice and information to help new hearing aid users to better use their hearing aids.

If you are new to the area with an NHS hearing aid from another department and you would like to be seen by our team please contact your GP to choose us for your audiology care.

Hearing Aid Services

We fit digital NHS behind-the-ear hearing aids and our current suppliers are Oticon and Phonak. Anyone who is concerned about their hearing should visit their GP.

If you do not have a history of problems with your ears, you can be referred to the audiology service by your GP for a hearing assessment and a hearing aid fitting, if this is appropriate.

If you have had ear problems in the past, or do not meet the criteria to be referred directly to the service, you will be referred to a consultant in the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department first.

You will have a hearing test carried out by an audiologist and the consultant may then refer you the audiology service for hearing aids. You will then have an appointment to have the hearing aid(s) fitted. A face-to-face or telephone follow-up appointment is offered to make sure you are benefiting from the hearing aid(s).

All patients who need hearing aids will be shown how to use and care for them, and will be given information on how to get used to wearing a hearing aid, how often to wear it and where to get replacement batteries.

NHS hearing aids are provided free of charge. A charge will be made when hearing aids have been lost or damaged through misuse. The current charge is £90 per hearing aid.

Lost Hearing Aid

Firstly, please carry out a thorough search for the lost aid.

Contact the department to arrange a repair appointment stating whether you have lost the earmould, hearing aid or both.

A charge will be made when hearing aids have been lost or damaged through misuse or neglect. The current charge is £90 per hearing aid.

Some examples include:

Exposure to excess moisture in showers/baths, whilst swimming or if worn in excessive rain.
Damage from domestic appliances such as washing machines, microwaves, conventional ovens.
Breaking/crushing from dropping or treading on them.
Tampering has caused damage beyond repair, e.g. parts of the instrument are glued together, the battery has been inserted incorrectly and has damaged the aid beyond repair.
Obvious marks of damage through neglect/poor storage such as: rust, grime, melting of casing, teeth marks from pets.
Poor/inappropriate cleaning regimes causing damage beyond repair.

Hearing Aid Repair Clinics

Booked repair clinics are available at Salisbury Audiology Department; please contact us for an appointment. Should you require batteries or re-tubing we have a volunteer service supported by the Action on Hearing Loss (AOHL) charity who provide:

new batteries and new earmould tubing
advice on how to use and clean your hearing aids
information on hearing loss and all the services that can help you

Postal Repair Service

NHS batteries can only be issued to patients who have NHS hearing aids. Replacement batteries are available by post when we have your brown book or battery record card. A self addressed envelope with one 2nd class large letter stamp is required for the return postage.

Battery collection for NHS hearing aids are available free from the following list of health centres and surgeries, AOHL services or by posting the hearing aid record book with a self-addressed envelope with one 2^nd class large letter stamp on, to:
