Within the Maternity Unit is the Benson Suite, an area with 2 labour rooms, a postnatal double bedroom, a kitchen and lounge.
The Benson Suite provides a safe, quiet space and has been provided for families whose baby has died or is expected to die shortly after birth. As long as you are clinically well, you will be offered to stay on the Benson Suite during labour and after the birth.
After your baby is born you can have your baby with you, to hold and to spend time with for as long as you would like. If you would like other family members to visit during this time this can be arranged.
When you are ready to say goodbye for now to your baby, your baby will be taken to the Bereavement Suite and be looked after by the bereavement staff there.
Once you have left the care of the hospital, you may wish to return to visit your baby again. You can call in advance to arrange to visit:
