There are two dedicated wards for orthopaedic patients. Chilmark Ward that deals mainly with trauma admissions, and Amesbury Ward that deals mainly with planned surgery. Both of these are situated on level 4 of the hospital. This is the same level as the main operating theatres, and is also close to the theatre suite.
Amesbury Ward has visiting hours from 2pm to 8pm (1400 hours to 2000 hours) and Chilmark Ward has visiting hours from 3pm to 8pm (1500 hours to 2000 hours). Both wards request that no flowers or plants are brought in. This helps to reduce infection risks and reduce ward clutter, allowing staff to have easier access to their patients.
Both wards have protected mealtimes. This means that they try hard to restrict visiting to any of the patients on the wards to enable them to enjoy their meals without interruption. The exception to this is if the patient needs help with eating and drinking, and then they encourage family and friends to come and help with the patient’s meal.
The telephone numbers for the wards are:
Amesbury Ward 01722 336262 extension 3105 or 3104
Chilmark Ward 01722 336262 extension 3140 or 3510
