A hydrotherapy pool is significantly warmer than a normal swimming pool, with a temperature around 35 degrees. Our Hydrotherapy pool is a constant depth of 1.35m.
The pool is located on the ground floor in the spinal unit. There are stairs and a chair lift access in to the pool. Changing facilities are available, but please remember to bring a towel and swim wear! Patient parking is available in the spinal unit car park or car parks 8 and 10.
As the hydrotherapy pool is warm, our team of therapists are able to take you through a variety of exercises, including walking/gait re-education, core stability exercises and upper-limb/lower-limb strengthening and stretching exercises. When in a water depth of up to chest height, your bodyweight is decreased by up to 80%, enabling you to do movements and weight-baring exercises that you may find difficult on land. This will allow you to start to build up strength and retrain your walking gait earlier in the rehabilitation process.
