The reference to #JoinOurPeople was born because our workforce are at the very centre of everything we do and our success is a testament to just how amazing they are.
There are several ways that we enable our staff to have their voices heard and to show our appreciation for the work they do. Some of these are outlined below.
Our Annual staff awards are an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate our Salisbury NHS Superstars. In 2022, we hosted our second awards event in the grounds of the iconic Salisbury Cathedral, with more than 650 colleagues attending.
Categories range from the Patent Experience Award to recognising the Team of the Year. It’s a truly a unique and wonderful experience to come together and appreciate every single person who was nominated and to give our people the chance to have a night of free food, fun and entertainment.
One of the great things about working at our Trust is being recognised by colleagues for our efforts and going that extra mile to help them. A process for recognising colleagues with the Sharing Outstanding Excellence (SOX) Award was introduced.
Both patients and colleagues can nominate staff and nominations are shortlisted and presented to the Executive Team who then decide on one nomination each from staff and patients every month. These two awards are presented to the winning staff members, who get their photo taken and featured in the Staff Bulletin.
We are committed to supporting all staff regardless of their background and personal circumstances. Part of how we do this is through our Staff Networks. Our Networks provide a safe space for discussion of issues relevant to that group, help raise awareness of issues within the whole workforce, provide individual support to colleagues who may face challenges at work and offer a collective voice to the Trust leadership.
Our dedicated Wellbeing Portal provides staff with access to a range of free resources. In recognition of the many extraordinary things our staff do in the care of our patients, we also know that the safety and health and wellbeing of our people is critical. We need to look after ourselves and each other so that we can continue to both thrive at work and deliver safe, high-quality care.
To meet this promise you will find both internal and external sources of support on this portal for a range of different issues, including financial wellbeing, working flexibly and looking after your emotional and mental health.
The Trust offers excellent staff benefits including onsite accommodation, day nursery and staff club with 2 indoor swimming pools, gym and squash court.
We also have a state-of-the-art Education Centre and Library which includes a full Simulation Suite.
You are also entitled to lots of other benefits working for the NHS including great discounts on many products and services. One example is the Blue Light Card, which for just £5.00 provides you with 5 years access to NHS specific offers from companies such as Apple, Odeon, and Hotels.com.
We also have many local benefits running, which currently includes 40% off Salisbury Reds, a bus service that runs to and from the hospital to various locations in and around the City. Staff also have the option to sign up to the Liftshare Scheme or Cycle to Work Scheme. Further details on staff travel benefits can be located on the Sustainability pages our Intranet.
Please view our interactive PowerPoint for further details of the Financial Support and Benefits that are available to NHS Staff.
Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of NHS Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
