Hello and a very warm welcome from the staff here at Salisbury's Maternity Unit!
Your main contact throughout your pregnancy will be a midwife. The role of the midwife is very diverse and involves more than just facilitating the birth of babies. As midwives, we are the main contact for women during their pregnancy, throughout labour and the early postnatal period as they help parents adjust to their new parental role. We are here to help support women to make informed choices about their care, as well as being responsible for providing the care.
Midwives also work in partnership with other health and social care services to meet individual mothers’ needs, for example, teenage mothers, mothers who are socially excluded, disabled mothers and mothers from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Midwives offer antenatal care both in the hospital and the community and a home birth service for women who live in the local area.
As well as midwives, you may be in contact with other healthcare professionals throughout your care with us. Please click on the buttons below for an introduction to our care team.
Please note: Where the term ‘women’ is used on this page, this refers to all birthing people.
Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of NHS Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
